Visitor Policies
To ensure an enjoyable Museum visit for everyone, please observe the following rules:
In the Museum
- Food and beverages are prohibited in the Museum. Please also refrain from eating candy or chewing gum.
- Pets are not permitted in the Museum, except for assistance dogs (guide dogs, hearing dogs and service dogs).
- Smoking is prohibited throughout the Museum. Please use the designated smoking areas outside the Museum near the Hirosaka entrance.
- Using flashes, tripods, monopods or selfie sticks within the museum and drones in the museum’s property are prohibited.
In the Exhibition Zone
- Please do not touch any art objects.
- Please do not bring your large bags and umbrella.
- If you possess a camera, we ask that you store it in your bag in order to avoid accidental contact with artworks and other visitors.
- The use of fountain pens and ballpoint pens is prohibited. Please use a pencil.
- Please refrain from using cell phones.
- Visitors may be refused entry if they appear intoxicated or otherwise pose a disturbance to other visitors.
- In all other matters, please comply with the instructions of Museum staff.
Photography in the Museum
- Photography and videography are permitted in locations shown in the map below, but the use of tripods or other equipment (including Selfie Stick) are prohibited. Please observe the rules below.

Photographs or videos taken are for personal use only.
“Personal use” is limited in meaning to personal or family enjoyment and other such uses.

The following shall not be considered personal use.
- Web page, blog, social media, email, and other Internet transmissions.
- Image use in printed matter for distribution (newsletters, post cards, new year’s cards, other).
- Image use in applications to photography or videography contests.
- Business activities, sales, and other commercial uses.

Please refrain from the following:
- Taking photographs or video using flash, tripods, or monopods.
- Taking photographs or video of other visitors or staff and other acts infringing on individual portrait rights.
- Taking photographs or video of restricted zones from corridors.
- Other actions in violation of copyright law.
