The exhibition will focus on “Dragon’ s Delusion,” a science fiction manga and animation
series by Kongkee, a Malaysian artist based in Hong Kong and London. This work depicts a world where humans, androids, and cyborgs coexist, and immortality has been achieved. In
this world, there are people who are placed under complete surveillance in exchange for
immortality, and people called “shaman” who renounce such surveillance. The android protagonist Joe, whose memories and personality have been duplicated from those of the former shaman Qu Yuan, shuttles back and for th between reality and memory to confirm his own free will in this cyberpunk tale that transcends time and space. Unlike Western-centered visions of the future disseminated around the world by mass media, Kongkee’ s vision of the future based on Asian culture and history in this brand of “Asian Futurism” will be showcased.
