Marubi Cinema Paradise! vol.8

This film festival lovingly assembled by youthful cinema fans ranging in age from late teens to mid-twenties aims to bring the old-fashioned excitement of the movies to Kanazawa, while preserving and passing on vital skills and technology by presenting these historic Japanese features using a cine film projector. Like last year, an accessible audio guide will be installed to allow audience members with visual impairment to enjoy the program.

Kanazawa Citizens Free Art Day “Open Museum 2021”

A special day for locals to encounter and enjoy art On “Kanazawa Citizens Free Art Day” held once a year, Kanazawa residents enjoy free entry to exhibitions for which there would normally be an admission charge. Ahead of this, in 2021 research and trial programs will be run during summer and autumn on the theme of “Place-making@Marubi” in which we join with local citizens to find ways to make the Museum a comfortable place for everyone in the city.

Participants will explore new, contemporary forms of experimental music performance that do not distinguish between artistic formats, manifesting as what is at once performance, exhibition, and choreography, the performance making use of multiple gramophones as theatrical musical devices

Yuko Hasegawa, Room for Preparing for the Future vol.1 “Preparing for the Future of Architecture” Director Yuko Hasegawa will start her talk series “Room for Preparing for the Future”. For those who cannot come to the venue on the day of the event, there will be a live broadcast on YouTube. *This program is in Japanese only. Archived video with English subtitles will be available later on YouTube. We are now at a major turning point. In addition, the global spread of coronavirus is accelerating and changing various systems. Museums are not immune to this environment. In the upcoming “Director’s Talk: Yuko Hasegawa’s Room for Preparing for the Future,” we will welcome guests who are at the forefront of the search for the future in a variety of genres, and they will share their perspectives on the “now” and unravel the guidelines and hopes for the future. We will start preparing for the future together with you. The guests for the first session, “Preparing for the Future of Architecture,” are Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA, the architects of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. Yuko Hasegawa, the new director of the museum, will join the two SANAA members to talk about the secret story of the construction of the museum, their activities since then, and how the future of architecture will change through these activities.
