塩田千春 ／ SHIOTA CHIHARU

この作品は、塩田千春が旧東ベルリンで取り壊されたり改築された建物の窓を集め、その窓だけで作ったものです。2005年にデンマークで行われた展覧会(1)で発表された作品に近いフォルムですが、当時《His Chair》 とされた「彼」とは、展覧会のテーマであったアンデルセンだったのに対し、いまや「彼」とは、かつてそこにいた誰か、という意味で使われています。1989年、ドイツを東西に分断したベルリンの壁が崩壊し、人々はベルリンという街に来るべき21世紀への希望を託しました。今もなお、建物の改築や建て替えが続いている混沌とした街・旧東ベルリンに住む塩田は、この窓を通して隔たれた西を見つめていたであろう人間と窓の記憶に関心を寄せ、旧東ベルリンで、2002年頃から、たったひとりで1日20軒以上の建物や工事現場を回って窓を探し始めました。ひとときは「窓に心を囚われていた」(2)というほどに収集にのめりこみ、2006年までに1,000枚以上の窓を集めたのです。これらの窓の一枚いちまいには、時代の空気や人々の暮らしが染み付き、かつていた誰かの存在を、今はもう目に見えない不在によって際立たせています。[黒澤浩美]
This work consists exclusively of windows of buildings pulled down or reconstructed in former East Berlin. Years after the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the city is still in a chaotic state with the continuous reconstruction of buildings. Interested in the memories of people and those windows, Shiota who lives in former East Berlin began to go around collecting windows at different buildings and worksites from around 2002, and by 2006, she had collected more than 1,000 windows. Every piece of those windows has memories of the times and residents’ lives. Since those people are no longer there, the windows remind us of their existence more keenly.

プロフィール
1972年、大阪府生まれ、ベルリン在住。1996年にハンブルグ大学に留学して以来、ドイツに拠点を求め、マリーナ・アブラモヴィッチとレベッカ・ホーンにそれぞれ師事し、自らの内側にあふれるぬぐい去ることのできない感情や感覚を、インスタレーション作品やドローイング、あるいはパフォーマンスで表現している。窓を使った作品は、2004年第一回セビリアビエンナーレで発表して以降、時に迷路のようであったり家であったりと形を変えてはいるものの、いずれも異なる記憶を持つ窓という個の集積が、亡き者や過ぎたことを、いまを生きる私たちに語りかけている。
Born in Osaka in 1972, lives in Berlin. Since she was a student of Hamburg University, Shiota has been based in Germany. She learned under Marina Abramovic and Rebecca Horn, and expresses her overflowing emotions and feelings through installations, drawings and performances. Since her work with windows was first shown at the 1st Seville Biennale in 2004, she has changed the form, maze-like or house at times. Nevertheless, the collection of windows, each of which is endowed with different memories, is powerful enough to make us think of the deceased and things in the past.
